SUMMARY:Santa Fe—St. John's College Graduate Institute Summer Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:In his lecture\, “Dante and the Hero’s Quest for Healing” Dr. Bailey will discuss the hero’s quest in ancient and modern literature. Using examples from mythology\, Homer’s Odyssey\, Virgil’s Aeneid\, Dante’s Inferno\, and his own novel\, The End of Healing\, Bailey’s lecture will consider how each of these stories involves a process of healing\, both for the broken world in which the hero finds himself and for the hero personally. In light of these stories\, the lecture will examine why the world of modern healthcare—more than any other social sector in the United States today—needs heroes\, and what kinds of heroes the broken healthcare system needs most. \nOpen to the public. Dr. Bailey will be available after the lecture to sign books in the St. John’s College Bookstore.
